Near Sweep at Swift New Years Tournament

All four VC Elite teams played at the Swift New Years tournament in Riverside last weekend.  The 8th graders won their firs tournament of 2016.  After winning their first two games on Saturday by some big margins, Sunday's game against Swift proved to be a real challenge.  Fortunately the team stepped it up with 100% hustle to pull out a victory after going back and forth in the last few minutes. A 3 pointer with just over a minute to go and a fast break layup after beating their press with just 30 seconds left in the game was the difference.  The 7th graders also won their first tournament of the year.  They beat LA Sparkles and Northstars on Saturday. In the championship game they faced a determined LA Sparkles team. It was a close contest at halftime but Elite came out with a half court trapping defense in the second half  that rallied them to victory.  The 5th and 6th graders started the new year off with great performances.  Both came in second place in their division.  What a great way to start the year!!
